Health interoperability and data exchange – View Healthcare Recruiters at this time

A window of opportunity now for investors and managers of health-direct and dominate a new niche in healthcare IT interoperability and data exchange. But, as Abraham Lincoln once said: “There may be those who wait, but only those things that quickly left.” As a physician executive recruiter represents my experience in conducting medical missions over 225 executive search firms for a slightly different perspective on many issues important to high growth. We hope that this point of view of internal discussions will benefit the company as its strategies for developing new health data interoperability and exchange opportunities to say goodbye. The window of opportunity has been created by a perfect storm. Increases consumer awareness and interest, debtors and suppliers willing to participate in discussions, are adopting the technology has increased, and stimulate spending bill of $ 2B participation from all sides. To be successful, healthcare IT managers and investors have a range of complex strategic considerations in the pursuit of this new window of opportunity.

Health officer to take action and profit from this point those are the business approach with a focus on the customer too far: the technology is not the business. The technology enables the company. But even with a lot of questions for investors outside of the managers to concentrate. An important question is: “What kind of management team to lead this company?” The answer is “it depends”. Depending on how you answer the following questions. First, however, the scope of his thinking on technology, architecture, intuitive and simple. Many investors and managers want to focus too much on technology. Prior to this common trap, remember the many examples of great technologies that never see the light of day. Alternatively, look at Facebook, without a doubt one of the most popular platforms for today’s technology, with millions of new members per month. Mark Zuckerberg is still a project on the Facebook platform in the world of standardized communication. He sees the site as an interactive, lively and very intuitive, as his old phone. Facebook users do not choose technology. But the new Facebook users intuitively how to respond to personal and professional needs, such as sharing family photos to catch up with old friends, sharing information, jobs, company jobs, etc. What has this to do with health? The answer is simple. Cook the technology and consumer needs in providing useful and intuitive. Do this and you differentiate your business and lay the foundations for rapid growth.

The following is a basic strategic considerations:

Check investors: Building a technology company or service? I’m going to cheat and give you the answer, offered to build a technology company. Who are your customers? Who pays? It can not be all of the door and must coincide with the consumer acceptance. How to organize the priorities of their company offerings and customers? Note that there is today only a few focused on interoperability company achieve success at every level of the state approved: City Medes and axolotls are two. Why are more successful than the competition?

View customers: Consumers know if the doctor uses EMR? You have access to the Internet to your personal data? The consumers know if the hospital will probably need to use an EMR and integrated with your doctor? Did it matter? What the consumer cares about us? Who has access to and ownership of data on consumers’ health and what happens when a loss of privacy? The consumer does not feel “The data are 100% sure” of the discussion. Government has also many losses and remember that the Titanic was unsinkable. Consumers have a personal health record (PHR) has? You want to keep a PHR? Do you prefer self-administered or managed care? Consider online banking. Perhaps the PHR interoperability is near?

Provider View: Providers may face in ensuring that the health information of patients is safe and private? Suppliers will be suspended if the information is lost to the consumer at any point in the cycle. E ‘to facilitate the interoperability of patients to a practice / clinic to dispense with a competitor? Rate of adoption: Providers should recognize that the rate is the introduction of rules for the identification and evaluation of the implementation, so why buy in comparison to wait for greater clarity in the plan? Align incentives: Most of the suppliers are required to cover a substantial part of the implementation of the technology and operational costs. However, pharmacies and insurance companies make huge profits. Who has the burden and how much? You can get more recipients to the table to discuss investment and development and ongoing operating costs?

Explore the employees: egg or the chicken: Do you offer a solution for taxpayers with large limbs and high PMPM (per member per month) costs or offer a solution and high profits for the suppliers? Confidence and confidentiality: John Q. Public trust of taxpayers as a guardian of personal data. Taxpayers have access to patient data, but states that now have direct access to the results of all patient care and outcomes? How to educate and provide a meaningful debate about electronic records and HIE and large companies, where many large companies, or even ask to learning, disease management services?

In the last two weeks, as the legislation is over, I have spoken with more than fifty investors, managers and brokers of health on health data exchange and interoperability. No one has all the answers, although many players operating profit, governmental and non-profit in this market. But one thing is certain. The fast-moving companies to discuss the issues most critical to these assumptions and, finally, to achieve maximum success.
